I'm not too active on /r/movies so I'm unsure of the common structure of posts, or how often this film has perhaps already been discussed, but I've just finished watching Craig Gillespie's 2007 Comedy/Drama 'Lars And The Real Girl' and I have found myself more eager to recommend this film than I have with any film I have watched for a long while; at least for a film without some spectacular plot-twist at the end, anyway.
If you've never seen or heard of it, this film is not dissimilar in tone to films like 'Garden State' - in its quirky, off-beat representation of a romantic relationship - and I found 'Lars And The Real Girl' to be warm, genuinely funny and sad in the right places, and ultimately (despite its presentation of a highly unusual premise; a guy with a plastic doll for a girlfriend) very real.
I thought Ryan Gosling was superb, doing the wonderful script justice with his performance, and the film's gentle, hopeful soundtrack just really kind of wrapped it all up for me as an excellent watch.
I may be gushing slightly, as it's gone 2am, but I just really, really liked the film and I've only ever heard it mentioned once before by a friend of mine so there's a chance many of you haven't heard of it - and I'd hate for you to miss out.
