While commenting on a post, I was down voted to eternity because of a tampon myth apparatly a lot of women believe. Reddit- there is no reason you can't wear a tampon while taking a bath! What other vaginal health myths have you heard lately?

so, I commented that a woman who posted a pic of herself taking a bath in water that was completely red could wear a tampon to avoid bathing in her own blood.. I got -25 karma from the comment with multiple people commenting that bathing with a tampon will give you toxic shock....

This is absolutely untrue! You can wear tampons in water people. I was on the swim team for over 10 years, and not only can you wear swimming with no ill effects, you should. please don't swim in a pool without a tampon in during your period. It's very unsanitary to other people. There's also no evidence I could find stating that a bath would effect your tampon differently.

For anyone unsure of how a tampon works.. it's not so much a 'cork' for the opening of your vagina... if fits inside of you deeper than the opening so that your vagina remains closed, exactly as if you were taking a bath without a tampon in. when I was on the swim team I would always change my tampon after swimming to be extra safe, but I think if I can swim a mile without my tampon swelling up with pool water a bath is probably fine.
