I'm a 24 year old woman who takes the bus home from work each day. It's a pretty far ride and I have to change buses at a large bus station. For the most part my rides home are quiet, occasional crude comment aside. But yesterday was awful. I was sexually harassed and groped at the bus station. No one came to my aid and I was only free of him after my bus showed up and I demanded the driver not let him on.
I called my fiance and he recommended I get some mace and to see if Home Depot has it since my stop right by home is next to Home Depot. I go inside and approach a group of 3 employees - two ladies and a man. I ask them if they sell mace and they say no but quickly notice that something is wrong. I tell them a very short version of what happened. The first woman started telling me where I could find free self defense classes and the man (who I guess was the manager) told the second woman to put her apron away and drive me to a local sporting goods store so I could buy some mace. They were all so insanely kind and the woman who took me was one of the warmest people I've ever met. After picking up the mace she even drove me home. This morning I dropped off a bouquet for her and cupcakes for the other employees. I was so touched and gives me hope that maybe one day I'll be able to walk down the street and not feel nervous.
I just wanted to share with y'all an amazing act of human kindness that really gave me hope.
